Illinois Allows Sikhs to Wear Turbans in Driving Licence Photos

In all over world Sikhs are struggling since years for turban and now it is good news that Illinois state has allowed sikhs to wear turbans in Driving Licence Photos. This is recently announced by Sikh American Legal Defence And Education Fund which was working for more than a year on this case.

Sikh American Legal Defence And Education Fund received report that in Illinois Sikh Americans and members of other communities were asked to remove their turbans in order to get their driver license in Illinois. Executive Director of  SALDEF  Jasjit Singh said that now a days it is necessary that photo identification is necessary on driving licence.

Acting on the complaints received from community members, SALDEF and other organizations, Secretary of State has asked the Department of Motor Vehicles employees to not ask for removal of articles of religious faith. They will also publish fliers citing this and highlighting that it is illegal to ask people to remove articles of religious faith including headgears.
