A French company will be installing Air pollution monitoring system at Golden Temple to monitor quality of air in and around Golden Temple complex. Though earlier this installation was scheduled to be completed by March 2015, now it will be completed by November this year.

In a meeting held yesterday, Singh sahibs have taken important decisions on few issues. Film shooting will be entirely banned inside Golden Temple premises. However, Religious documentaries can be allowed, but will require a prior written permission from SGPC.

Giani Jagtar Singh took over as head granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib from Singh Sahib Giani Mal Singh ji yesterday. Earlier last week, SGPC appointed Giani Mal Singh as Jathedar of Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib in a meeting held in Chandigarh. Now people coming to visit Harmandir Sahib Amritsar will be able to take Prasad with them to far flung places as Pinni prasad has been made available for pilgrims who wish to carry prasad with them. Started on Monday, October 8, 2012 three windows have been created just before the place where Karah prasad is bought.
Pinni prasad has been available in almost all of the historical gurudwaras like Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib Nanded, Takhat Patna Sahib, Anadpur Sahib. But Since only Karah prasad was available in Harmandir Sahib, sikh sangats were not able to carry prasad with them who came from far off places.

Jarnail Singh, a journalist with Dainik Jagran, the Hindi daily who recently hurled shoe towards Indian Home Minister Shri P. Chidambram today visited Harmandir Sahib. Jarnail Singh was accompanied by his family.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar honoured Jarnail Singh and his family at the Information Centre in Harmandir Sahib complex. Both had a talk for about 10 minutes in a closed room.

Prime Minister of India, S. Manmohan Singh today visited Harmandir Sahib to offer thanks giving prayers after his successful recovery from recent heart bypass surgery. Prime Minister arrived at around 6 AM in the morning and listened to Keertan for around 40 minutes. He was accompanied by his wife Mrs Gursharan Kaur.

In an effort to check pollution caused by Fireworks, SGPC plans to replace Fireworks with laser shows.
According to S. Avtar Singh Makkar, President, SGPC, "By now, aatishbazi has become an inalienable part of the Golden Temple’s festivities. Being a long-time observer of the damage pollution has done to the temple, I strongly advocate making positive changes in keeping with our tradition. So a light and sound show is the most plausible option. We will begin our feasibility study in a few days".
